Hydrocephalus is a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the cavities (Ventricles) deep within the brain. It occurs when there is an imbalance between the amount of CSF produced and the rate at which it is absorbed. As the CSF builds up, it causes the ventricles to enlarge, putting increased pressure on the brain.
Over a million people are suffering with this incurable brain disorder. Hydrocephalus is 30 times more common than Cystic Fibrosis but receives only 1/13 of federal funding.
Currently, there is NO cure for Hydrocephalus, only treatment. The only treatment available is brain surgery.
